Joka is on Kolkata's south-western edge along Diamond Harbour Road, where the city meets South 24 Parganas. It is home to the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta's campus, and it is the southern terminus of the Purple Line metro, which runs along Diamond Harbour Road through Thakurpukur and Behala towards Taratala and Majerhat. Behala's markets and schools lie just to the north. The area still has open land and greenery, which makes it one of the few parts of the city with residential plots alongside newer apartment complexes and gated projects.
